Articulation disorder is the incorrect production of speech sounds. Whether a child has one or multiple errors, an articulation delay can make it difficult for them to get their needs met and can sometimes cause behavior problems in younger children. Older children may have some anxiety about speaking in social situations and also be difficult to understand. If your child does not have all of his speech sounds by the time they are 8 years old, they should receive therapy. The benefit of private therapy over school based therapy is the homework and parent consultation you will receive after each session. You will know how to work with your child's articulation delay and their progress will be much faster.
